Unit 6: Translation and historical memory
Please, view the videopresentation TRANSLATION AND HISTORICAL MEMORY
Summary of unit 6
Unit 6 of the META-FRASEIS videopresentations examines representations of a historical experience in two translation versions of a source text by Irish journalist Bruce Clark, which deals with the population exchange between Greece and Turkey in 1923.
The unit summarizes findings of a research project exploring the representation of the historical experience in the Greek and Turkish translation, in collaboration with the Department of Translation and Interpreting, University of Bogazici, Istanbul.
The unit shows that the two target versions assume some shared narratives reverberating in the target texts and others which are different, constructing a different representation of the historical memory. (Visual material from the collaboration visit to the University of Bogazici)
